Wisdom High School senior Leslee Cruz was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from Houston ISD Superintendant Grenita Lathan for her outstanding academic achievements and exceptional work ethic this school year. Cruz is the third ranked student in the Wisdom Class of 2021 and spent her senior year as the Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, directing a staff of student editors and page designers to create the yearbook that was sent to print on the day that she was awarded the scholarship.
“Leslee has shown an incredible amount of determination and has overcome all of the challenges that this learning environment presented, managing to pass all of her classes with outstanding grades and editing the yearbook online remotely from home,” Yearbook Adviser David Fanucchi said. “She has all of the qualities that you would look for in a leader, and we are very proud of her here at Wisdom.”
Cruz will be attending Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas to major in Psychology, choosing to study the field after taking an AP Psych class here at Wisdom. “I really enjoyed the topic when I had the class, and I want to learn more about that field,” said Cruz. “So I am very happy to be receiving this award, and me and my family are very grateful for it.”
Cruz was featured by Houston ISD in a spanish video news story that aired on Univision and the HISD website. The video story can be viewed here.
