Wisdom senior Shadia Mutoni scored a school-record and career-high 45 points Saturday in the Lady Generals’ 67-45 Girls Varsity Basketball victory over Milby at TJ Engram Fieldhouse. The win improved Wisdom to 3-2 overall in District 23-5A action this season.
Mutoni – who has played at the varsity level at Wisdom for three years and was the team MVP in 2019 – went 23-for-26 at the free throw line, while putting pressure on the Milby defense all day. She also connected on two three-pointers.
“She just kept attacking the basket and she really followed our game plan very well,” head coach Jennisha Thomas said. “She began to get the Buffaloes into foul trouble, and it kept the tempo of the game in our favor.” Sophomore Leslie Zelaya added 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to help Wisdom seal the win.
“I had a nice week of practice and was really focused on improving my free-throw shooting,” said Mutoni. “So I’m really proud of this game and the way I shot the basketball. During the game I wasn’t really paying attention to my point total, so that was a surprise.”
Thomas likes the way her squad is coming together. “I think if we can continue to play the way we have been the last couple of weeks, that we can become the best team in this district,” Thomas said. The Lady Generals next face Northside at Butler Fieldhouse on Tuesday at 5:30 PM.

This young lady is truly amazing. I have enjoyed watching her develop as a player.
