As high school basketball season begins and practice opens this week, the Generals have been preparing for their new season.
“I expect the Lady Generals to advance to playoff again this year,” Coach Thomas said. “The girls seem hungry and a few of them have been getting looks from colleges over the summer. I think they are ready to show up and prove themselves.”
For the players who are not in another sport before basketball, they have been doing a lot of conditioning. Coach Thomas plans for her team to be running up and down the court and advancing the ball quickly this season.
“Not sure of the number of girls we’ll have participating yet,” Coach Thomas said. “I have been coaching at Wisdom for nine seasons and it’s been a struggle, but slowly, everything that I have hoped to accomplish in the beginning is coming together now.”
Thomas decided to be a coach because she believed that she could change the culture of our program. It has taken a while to sow her seeds, but she has began reaping some of the benefits of sticking to the plan. “I love basketball and my students athletes. I enjoy watching them grow and become productive citizens, to win in both the game of basketball and in life.”

For the boys, Coach Trahan’s players have been working out Monday through Friday, to make sure that they are in top physical form, once their first game comes along. Trahan has also taken many precautions, to make sure that his team will take the game as seriously as he does.
He takes a count of whoever stays after school for conditioning, checks that they’re all doing well in their classes, and talks to many of his players, so that he can get to know his team. Coach Trahan believes that his squad will do great things this season, and improve on our finish last year.
