Wisdom Generals Open 23-5A Soccer with 6-0 Shutout Over Austin

The Wisdom Generals – ranked #7 overall among boys varsity soccer teams in the Greater Houston Metro Area by VYPE Magazine – opened play Tuesday in District 23-5A with a 6-0 shutout over Houston Austin.
Forward Alexis Martinez had a pair of goals for the Generals, who are now 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in district.

“We showed what kind of team we can be this year right out of the gate,” said Martinez. “We have the capacity to have another great season if we play together as a team.”
The Wisdom JV team also defeated Austin by the same 6-0 score, as Yordanos Aman scored twice, with goals added by Shadrak Minani, Nico Hernandez, John Rai, and Ashenafi Adego.
“I’m really happy with the way the squad is developing so far, and I stress on my players a lot to also focus on their education, to remain eligible,” said Coach James Jabbari. The win improved the JV team record to 5-1-1 overall, 1-0 in district.
The varsity plays next vs Sterling on Friday, Feb. 1 at 5:30 at Barnett; while the JV will lace up on Saturday vs Sterling at 10 am.
Meanwhile, the Wisdom Girls opened their district schedule on Tuesday, but were defeated 2-1 by Austin. “It was a tough loss, but just starting the season we have a lot of room for improvement,” said senior Jailine Romero.
