The Wisdom Generals Mathematics Team shined once again Saturday at the Houston ISD Invitational #3 at Waltrip HS. The Academic Meet was shortened following Houston ISD’s cancellation of all extracurricular activities due to rainy weather conditions, from Friday at 4:00 pm until Saturday at 9:00 am.
On Saturday with the meet starting later than normal at 11:00 am, several events were not conducted including Accounting, Computer Science, News Writing, Feature Writing and Poetry.
Seniors Mauricio Guerrero, Ethan Song, and Aaron Ni once again led the way for Wisdom, as the Generals took home the team trophies in both Calculator Applications and Mathematics. Ni won the individual gold medal in Calculator Applications, while Song took home the gold medal in Mathematics. The trio’s other individual results included:
Song – 2nd in Number Sense and Calculator Apps
Ni – 2nd in Math and 6th in Number Sense
Guerrero – 4th in Math and Calculator Apps
Additional members of Wisdom’s winning math team include juniors Bai Aimihoue (5th in Calculator Apps), Natalie Ortega (6th in Calculator Apps), Amanda Ortega and Alyssa Vazquez; sophomores Amilcar Garcia, Sai Gurijala, Metkel Mogos, Wilmer Salgado, and Ricardo Trinh, and freshman Mariana Martinez.
In other events, Wisdom Chronicle Editor Alyssa Vazquez earned a silver medal (2nd) in Headline Writing, while senior Victor Arreola was 5th in Headline Writing. Junior Tiye Boddie finished 5th in Social Studies.
Wisdom – continuing their quest for a third consecutive UIL Academic 5A District Championship – have won back-to-back (2017 & 2018) District 24-5A Overall Academic titles. This year, they are now competing in 23-5A, with an eye on the District Championships being held at Wisdom High School on Saturday, March 30, 2019.
