The Wisdom Generals – coached by Math Teacher Eridani Alcantar and Principal Jonathan Trinh – began their quest for a third consecutive UIL Academic 5A District Championship Saturday by earning the top overall sweepstakes score among 5A high schools at the Houston ISD Invitational #1 at North Forest HS.
Having captured back-to-back (2017 & 2018) District 24-5A Overall Academic titles, Wisdom’s District number was recently changed due to realignment, and they will now be competing this year and next in District 23-5A. But the high schools they will compete against remain the same: Northside, Madison, Waltrip, Sharpstown and Sterling.
On Saturday, Seniors Ethan Song and Aaron Ni led the way for Wisdom as they have been doing since their sophomore year. Both students captured multiple medals, with Song earning a silver medal in Number Sense and a bronze in Calculator Applications, while Ni won the Calculator Apps gold medal and notched a 4th place award in Number Sense.
Mauricio Guerrero took 2nd place (silver) in Calculator Apps, while Bai Aimihoue brought home a 5th place award to help Wisdom capture the team Calculator Apps trophy.
Junior Syed Faridi earned a pair of silver medals for the two-time, defending district champion Wisdom Journalism team, as he finished second in both News Writing and Feature Writing.
Carnegie Vanguard High School (6A) won the overall sweepstakes, while Wisdom finished 2nd overall at the Invitational (but as the top 5A team).
Other winners for Wisdom on the day included:

Wei Jiang Lin Tan – 3rd Place – Computer Science
