The Wisdom Generals got stellar offensive production and enough quality defense to earn a 31-6 victory over visiting private school Cristo Rey Jesuit in a non-district football game Thursday night at Delmar Stadium. It was the first win of the season for the Generals (1-2) after they opened their 2018 campaign with losses to HISD non-district foes Furr and Sam Houston.
Wisdom Head Coach Jacque Tinsely was impressed with the play of senior Jose Martinez, juniors Farhan Tanvir and Jesus Pacheco, and sophomore Terelle Porter.
“We really needed this boost of confidence, after having started the season with some unexpected challenges,” said Tinsely. “Our players had to come together as a group, and many of them had to play both ways, but that also gave several younger players a chance to show us what they can do. But they took on the challenge and they responded. I’m proud of our two quarterbacks – Martinez and Tanvir – who both stepped up in a very big way. And a shout out to Jesus Pacheco for his leadership as our center. Terelle Porter did very well tonight and had a big interception on defense, plus several tackles. It was a team effort, where they fought hard and played the game the right way.”
Porter was particularly excited to help his team get a hard-fought win, as he knows they are all tough to come by when you are playing high school football in Texas.

“I think we really stepped up tonight and redeemed ourselves from the way we’ve performed those first two weeks,” said Porter. “We stuck to our roles and found a way to win the game. We need to thank our coaches for helping us know what we need to do, and to stay focused on that mission in order to win.”
The Generals next have a bye week, before opening District 9-5A action against New Caney on September 28 at 7 pm at Texan Drive Stadium.

Hello everyone! My name is Alyssa, I’m a sophomore and the second period news editor.  I was born and raised in Houston. I love to read and write during my spare time or just chill with my music. You can always catch me glued to my couch when The Walking Dead or Fear the Walking Dead comes out on Sunday nights. I always tell myself and others that you shouldn’t be afraid of something until you have given it a chance. I tend to be very inspired once I start jamming out to my music but overall, I can’t wait to see what this class holds in store for me. <3
