Westside HS; Houston TX – The Wisdom Generals captured the 2018 District 24-5A UIL Academic Championship on Saturday by earning the highest overall point total among six high schools, at the Houston ISD Academic Championship held at Westside. It was the second consecutive title for Wisdom – the defending 24-5A Champions – as they outscored Austin, Madison, Milby, Northside and Sterling.

The Generals won outright district team championships in 13 of the 16 competitions: Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Current Issues, Journalism, Literary Criticism, Math, Number Sense, One Act Play, Science, Social Studies and Spelling. In addition, junior Ethan Song captured three individual titles in the Math-related competitions, and Aaron Ni won three silver medals in those same events. Ni also earned a gold medal in Science, while Song finished second.

But they have worked hard all year to prepare, and we will be ready for Regionals.”

The top three individual finishers in all competitions advanced to the 5A Regional Finals, to be held Saturday, April 14 at Magnolia High School. Other Generals that advanced to Regionals include:

Bai Aimihoue – Calculator Applications
Victor Arreola – Computer Applications

I wish there were more academic competitions, and others as well, rather than so much emphasis on 3 or 4 sports. I’m a UIL coach for academics on the elementary level. Let’s bring out the best in all our kids Houston !
