The brand new Wisdom High School campus that was built on the grounds of the old Lee High School on Beverly Hill Lane (near Richmond & Hillcroft), opened it’s doors to students on Monday, September 11, 2017 for the first time. The Cheerleaders lined both sides of a red carpet near the student entrance, while the ROTC members, teachers and staff greeted all of the students as they arrived to this new experience, and a beautiful, shiny campus.
Despite a two-week delay of classes beginning following Hurricane Harvey, the Generals were ready to get their school year started.
“We have been anticipating this day for several years, so to finally have this new energy and excitement on campus, and to see the faces of our students as they entered this morning, it was just a tremendous feeling,” said Principal Jonathan Trinh.
The grand ceremony was organized by Assistant Principal Sandra Garza, along with At-Risk Administrators Mrs. Pena and Mrs. Washington. “We wanted to make sure that our students felt welcomed, and create a safe environment where they know how much they are appreciated and loved,” said Garza. “It was nice to see that they were all so excited, surprised, and happy.”
For the senior class of 2018, it was a something that they won’t soon forget. “It is like moving into a brand new house, a new start and a fresh beginning,” said senior Awah Bodunrin. “This high school is so special to all of us, and to be a part of the first graduating class in this incredible new building, we appreciate what Houston ISD has done to build us this modern campus.”
