20 New Members Inducted into the Wisdom HS National Honor Society

—– As a senior here at Wisdom high school and as the President of the National Honor Society, what Samantha Campos likes most about being a General is the way that the teachers and students care about one another, and the way the CIS program helps any student in need.
The Communities in Schools program (CIS) is a program that supports students, provides counseling and food, and sends them on trips. As a sophomore, Samantha got pregnant when she was just 16 years old, and gave birth to her beautiful daughter Miah Sofia. Miah is now a year and seven months old, and Samantha has been not only a student here at Wisdom trying to graduate, but a working mom as well. Campos works at the Pappasito’s restaurant across the street from campus.
“She is a smart baby with a strong personality, and she’s just beautiful.” said Campos. “But it has definitely been a struggle trying to raise a child, attend high school classes and having a job all at the same time.”
Although Samantha had a baby at a young age, she hasn’t let that stop her from achieving her goals. Not only is she the NHS president, but she is also graduating in the top 10% of this year’s senior class. After graduation, she plans to continue her education at the University of Houston, and Samantha will be the first person in her family to attend college.
Raised by immigrant parents, she felt like she had disappointed them by getting pregnant. So instead, she works really hard to make her parents proud and get where she is today. Samantha described the whole experience as “stressful,” but it has taught her how to persevere through life.
Recently, Samantha helped initiate the 20 newest members of the Wisdom National Honor Society, with the assistance of Ms. Savoy, as they encouraged the students to stay L.I.T., which is “Lead with Love, Inspire and Influence” as well as take their lives to the next level. Each new member was pinned by Ms. Savoy and received their lifelong membership card into this prestigious society.
(Special thanks go out to Ms. Jettie Green for keeping the NHS tradition alive and the organization shining brightly).
