Following a rainout back on Friday, March 10, the Wisdom High School Generals waited all of spring break to play their final regular season game. They suited up on Monday at Butler Stadium to take on Waltrip in what was supposed to be their homecoming game, and in the end, the Generals completed their undefeated regular season with a 6-2 victory.
It was the third straight District 24-5A Boys Soccer Regular Season Championship for the Generals under Coach Fidel Andrade. They have become the most successful team at Wisdom (formerly Lee HS).
“I’m very proud of this team, and they have battled hard all season long,” said Andrade, who himself played for the Generals back in the mid 90’s. “It is our goal every year not just to win the district, but to advance deep into the state playoffs. And we have that opportunity again this season. We still have challenges in front of us, but we are reaching our goals because we know what we can accomplish with hard work and sacrifice.”
Meanwhile, the Lady Generals ended up in a 1-1 tie against Waltrip on Monday, which forced them into a tie for fourth place in the district standings. To break the tie and see which team advanced into the post-season, the Lady Generals played another game against Northside on Tuesday night, but lost in overtime. Their season has come to an end.
