As the season comes to an end, the Lady Generals Varsity Basketball Team has been steadily improving their skills all year long. The team proved their growth by winning three of their final five games, including a 44-18 victory over Sterling on Tuesday, February 7. That was preceeded by a 36-35 victory over Waltrip on February 4, and prior to that, they earned a 54-10 victory over Milby.
Those were all great wins for the girls, because it revealed that their hard work had finally paid off. “They have improved in all areas,” said Coach Thomas. “The biggest improvement is in the team work, because they work as a unit now.”
The improvement shows in their victory over Waltrip, because in the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, the Lady Generals lost that game by 20 points.
One of the best players this season has been Shadia Mutoni. Mutoni finished the Milby game with 21 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals. “Shadia’s performance was unstoppable that night,” said Thomas. “She was knocking down shots from all areas from the court.”
In addition, Ajen Mayan had 20 rebounds, 6 points and 8 blocks; Awah Bodunrin- had 10 rebounds and two points;
Kiarra Ray had four points and six steals; Andrea Cardenas had six points and eight steals, and Frewenyni Marko had two points and eight steals.
