Ms. Boeker has always had a passion for art and she can’t wait to teach her skills to her students. She’s ready for a creative 2016-17 school year, and shares her story on the path of fulfilling her dreams.

“I’ve enjoyed art my entire life and would often get in trouble for sketching in class,” said Boeker. “After graduation from high school, I had absolutely no idea what to do! So, I worked in a restaurant called Fuddruckers and went to Brazosport College to receive an Art Degree, despite people telling me that an Art Degree would not benefit me in life. I didn’t worry about it, I had so much opportunity in college for art.”

“I then went to the University of Houston for my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and graduated three years later. I worked at the museum of Fine Arts in Houston, because the restaurant work was not for me. I was a Security Officer, and a substitute teacher at my hometown high school.”

“One day, I was subbing at the high school in an Art class and a student was happy with his work. I helped him add details and edited different areas of his creation. He worked on it the entire class period, and it turned out great. That’s when I decided to become a teacher.”

Ms. Boeker then got her teaching certificate, rather than trying to earn another degree. But the death of a very good friend of hers came as a huge shock. “It was devastating, but his mother was also working hard to be a teacher, so I figured that if she can do it, so can I.”

She then attended a few job fairs, and met Mr. Trinh. He later hired her. “I absolutely love it here, and I hope I can make a positive impact and help my students succeed.”
