Senior student Yelson Algua has a true musical talent.  He brings harmony to Wisdom High School, and with his melodic tunes, we’re able to understand what great music sounds like.

Yelson has been practicing the art of music since he was in middle school. With the help of his teacher and fellow peer Luis Aguirre, Yelson has been improving his musical talent. He taught himself how to play the piano and the drums. “I started to play the piano in middle school,” said Algua. “All I did was listen to the music and started playing. I also used the help of YouTube to advance my skills.”

Yelson learns new techniques on playing instruments by listening and watching other people, and then trying them out for himself. He practices a lot to get better at it. Like the saying goes, practice makes perfect!

During the recent Homecoming Pep Rally, Algua had the opportunity to perform the song “Love Yourself,” and believed it was an exceptional experience. “I loved it,” said Algua. “I enjoy playing in public, and I wish that some day I can play for a big crowd.”

Band instructor Mr. Brown stated that playing the guitar isn’t as easy as it looks, and it takes time and hard work to be successful at it. “What Yelson does is not near as simple as he makes it sound,” said Brown.

“The true beauty of music is that it connects people. It carries a message, and we, the musicians, are the messengers.” – Roy Ayers

Your music is what unites us students at Wisdom High School. Continue with creating amazing music, Yelson!
